Stilt fishermen, Weligama
Weligama is famous for the fishing technique employed by the fishermen of the village. They cast their lines out while balancing themselves quite cleverly on a 20-50 meter pole in shallow waters; stilt fishing derives its name from this act. Even though the origins of this strange way of fishing is yet unknown, this may be a good opportunity to chat up a few fishermen who take pride in this unique technique. The fishermen here guard their fishing poles with their lives and hand them down from one generation to another.

Whale watching in Sri Lanka is one of the most unique and interesting water related activities you can do during your holiday tour in Mirissa Sri Lanka.

The warm Indian Ocean of the southern Sri Lanka is the best place to spot a wide variety of whales & dolphins. There are believed to be around 26 different species of whales traversing this region such as Blue whales, Bryde´s whales, Sperm whales, Fin whales, sometimes Killer whales and also includes the well loved dolphin like common dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, Spinner dolphins, Risso’s dolphins and striped dolphins.

Moonstone, considered to be the most valuable variety of feldspar, is the opalescent variety of orthoclase (an opaque to transparent potassium feldspar). Its schiller or adularescence is caused by the intergrowth of two different types of feldspar, with different refractive indexes.
Like labradorite, it has an opalescent quality, caused by the reflection of light from the internal structure. Moonstone is usually whitish-blue, but can be colorless, yellow, orange, gray, or even reddish.

Stop At: Galle Fort, Church Street, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka

The Galle Fort, or Dutch Fort as it is also known, is a fortification first built by the Portugese on the Southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. The initial fortifications, which were built in the late 16th century, were quite basic. However the fort underwent extensive modifications in the 17th century by the Dutch, making it one of the most important archeological, architectural and historic monuments to illutrate the European influence in South East Asia between the 16th and 19th centuries. According to a statement by UNESCO the site was recognized as a World Heritage Site for its unique exposition of an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries which is the criteterion number four for such recognition.
