Day 1: Negombo-Ealla
Stop At: Nine Arches Bridge, Ella Sri Lanka
One of the highlights in the mountain village Ella is the 30-meter high Demodara Nine Arch Bridge. With a small 30-minute walk through the jungle, you will reach a piece of beautiful architecture that is hidden between lush green tea fields.The Nine Arch Bridge is a viaduct bridge in Sri Lanka. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. The chief designer and project manager of the ‘upcountry railway line of Ceylon’ project was D. J. Wimalasurendra, a distinguished Ceylonese engineer and inventor. The designer of the viaduct was Harold Cuthbert Marwood of Railway Construction Department of Ceylon Government Railway. The 1923 report titled “Construction of a Concrete Railway Viaduct in Ceylon” published by the Engineering Association of Ceylon has details of all the records including the plans and drawings.

Reaching an imposing 1141 meters in the air, Mini Adam’s Peak lets thrill-seekers scour stunning sceneries that are made up of densely covered jungle and cliff drops. Halpewatte Tea Factory in Ella. Built during the British era, the Tea factory is located at a beautiful, picturesque region which allows you to explore the serenity.Built in 1940, during the British rule, the factory is perched. The Uva Halpewaththa Tea Factory, 5km north of Ella, runs some of the better tea plantation tours in Sri Lanka. The tea factory offers guided tours and it is a learning process of Ceylon tea for anyone who visits the factory. Uva Halpewatte tea factory is the largest tea factory in the Uva region.

The Ravana Ella Caves is a legendary historical site. Situated on a cliff close to Ella it is 4,950 feet above sea level. This cave consists of a part of the tunnel which is connected to the Ravana Ella Falls. King Ravana kidnapped Queen Sita and brought her to Sri Lanka confining her to these caves. These tunnels gave ample access to quick and undisrupted travel and were the perfect gateway for King Ravana. The myth and reality of this epic story revolved around Ella. According to Ramayana proofs of Sri Lanka, these tunnels served as a quick means of transport through the hills and as a secret passage.
