Itinerary

Day 1: Negombo – Kandy

Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple. On Wednesdays there is a symbolic bathing of the Sacred Relic with an herbal preparation made from scented water and fragrant flowers, called Nanumura Mangallaya. This holy water is believed to contain healing powers and is distributed among those present.

Stop At: Kandy Lake, Centre of Kandy City, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Kandy Lake is an artificial lake that is also known as the Kiri Muhuda (or the “Sea of Milk”), and it can be found in the heart of Kandy city. Built in the early 19th century by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the last king of Kandy’s ancient Sinhalese monarchy, the lake is in front of the sacred Temple of the Tooth.The unfinished wall has a history attached to it which makes it even more interesting. It remains incomplete due to the arrest and subsequent arrest of the King Wikrama in 1815 by the Britishers. Standing at 2060 feet, the cloud wall remains unfinished even today. The triangular holes in the walls are used to light oil lamps.

The temple on the hill of Bahirawakanda, called the Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya, is most well-known to tourists for its giant Buddha statue, which can be seen from any part of Kandy. Visitors can climb the top of the hill for panoramic views of the City of Kandy, the inside of Bogambara Prison, and the mountain range nearby. It makes for some spectacular photographs and memories.

The beat of dancing from “Salupliya” depicting several demons, “Thelme” vibrant expression of low country rhythm, Fire and Harvest dances accompanied by Ceremonial Drums and the Drum Orchestra rising and falling to the lively tempo. As many as 12 different folk and traditional dances are performed by Kandy lake club dance troop within the span of one hour.

Day 2: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya (Scenic Train Ride)

Stop At: Victoria Park of Nuwara Eliya, A5, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
Victoria Park is one of the most attractive parks located in Nuwara Eliya. The park is calm, serene and amazingly beautiful – hence, a stroll around its paths, passing immaculately-cut lawns, is a great pleasure as well as a mind relaxing way to spend a few hours. The park comes alive with magnificent flowers of every colour around March to May, and August to September. It’s also home to a number of bird species and butterflies. The park has beautiful landscape and it is well-maintained. The park was said to have been named to honor the 60th Jubilee Coronation of Queen Victoria in the year 1897.

Stop At: Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Being the most prominent attraction Nuwara Eliya, this place is a hotspot for tourists from the world over. This lake was built during the British period in 1873 under Sir William Gregory, hence the name. During that period the lake was basically used for water sports and re-creational activities. The boats rides at this lake offer an unforgettable experience with the availability of swan boats which can be taken on hire easily. The view of the surrounding misty hills can be enjoyed peacefully sitting at this spot. The best part of this area is the pleasant and soothing atmosphere, which can be best enjoyed during the month of April.

Day 3: Nuwara Eliya – Negombo

Stop At: Nuwara Eliya Golf Course, Grand Hotel Road, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, founded in 1889, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Asia and probably the world and is enriched with a tradition and an ambience, which is hard to equal. The Club is situated at the foot of Mount Pedro and is surrounded by some of the finest tea gardens in Sri Lanka. The 18-hole course is a testing par-71 over a length of 6075 yards. It consists of long and narrow fairways, bordered by tall trees and dense shrubbery. Good positional play is required and the terrain enfolds the golfer in a constant uphill and downhill trek with many water hazards. The grass on the green is local, mixed with blue grass. It is a walking links course that winds its way around the town of Nuwara Eliya offering a scenic overview of the region.

Stop At: Pedro Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
To see where your morning cup of tea originates, visit the Pedro Tea Estate. Situated about 3.5 KM east of Nuwara Eliya it is accessible by vehicle. Visitors can visit the Tea estate from morning up to 12.30 p.m. and again after 2.00 p.m. At Pedro Estate factory you will be shown the full process of how tea is manufactured and then graded and packed for export to all corners of the world. The Pedro tea estate is located in Central Sri Lanka at close proximity to Nuwara Eliya and is located on a landscape with the blue sky as the background with green pastures of tea and water falls cascading, which is a sight never to be missed.

Stop At: Lover’s Leap Falls, Hawa Eliya, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
This beautiful 30m high lovers leap fall in Nuwara Eliya is incipient of the streams and brooks of Sri Lanka’s highest mountain, the Piduruthalagala (2524m). Lover’s Leap waterfall got its name from an old legend. The story goes that a royal prince went hunting in the jungle and got lost. Luckily he met a young lady from the local village and was guided by her. They fell in love, but the Prince his parents were against their marriage and refused to allow it. In their despair at being forced apart they jumped from the top of the waterfall to their deaths below, where they could be united forever.
