Day 1: Colombo/Negombo – Hatton
Stop At: Maussakelle Reservoir, Sri Lanka
The Maskeliya Dam (also known as the Maussakelle Dam) is a large gravity dam at Maskeliya, in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. Along with the Castlereigh Dam, the dams are the highest point and beginning of the Laxapana Hydropower Complex, involving a number of dams, penstocks, and hydroelectric power stations. The dam creates the Maskeliya Reservoir over the route of Maskeliya Oya, a major tributary of the Kelani River, which is the 4th longest in the country. A 4.2 km (2.6 mi) penstock from the Maskeliya Reservoir, measuring 3 m (10 ft) in diameter, transfers water directly to the Canyon Hydroelectric Power Station, located further downstream.

Stop At: Castlereagh Reservoir, Hatton 22000 Sri Lanka
The Castlereagh Reservoir is one of Sri Lanka’s best-kept secrets; hidden in a valley and circled by tall green peaks, the reservoir is perhaps the most idyllic location in the hill country. The reservoir looks like something straight out of a fairytale: from a distance the cool waters have an aquamarine tinge to it- which looks even more stunning when encircled by the green mountains- but the closer you get it becomes apparent the water is actually crystal clear. The vegetation around the reservoir ranges from alpine forests to well-groomed tea bushes. Apart from being incredibly beautiful, the reservoir is also vital for its adjoining power station, and it provides most of the electricity in the area. The reservoir also has an ‘airport’, since the drive to Hatton can be quite tedious, many people opt for taking a sea plane from Colombo which lands on the reservoir! A sight which would definitely excite anyone!.

Stop At: Christ Church Warleigh, Hatton – Maskeliya – Dalhousie Rd, Dickoya 22050 Sri Lanka
The Warleigh Christ Church is an Anglican church that was built in the 19th century by the British. The church was founded by William Scott, the manager of the Governor’s Mansion, and because of his vision the church was built in typical old British architecture. Warleigh Church exudes a sense of nostalgia of a time gone by; most of the material used to construct the church were brought in from Britain, and the structure that still stands today is a great example of colonial life in Sri Lanka.The small church is made out of granite stones, giving the structure an ashy-brown tone, the interior of the church is made out of wood, and most of the original furniture is still in use today. Along with the ancient pipe organ, the church’s most prized possession is their 140 year old Bible. The century-old stone church sits on the edge of a clifftop and is encircled by tall trees and it orders tea estates as well as the Castlereagh Reservoir.

Day 2: Hatton – Colombo/Negombo
Stop At: Devon Falls, Nawalapitiya – Dimbula Road, Dimbula, Sri Lanka
Devon Falls, known as the ‘Veil of the Valley’, is a waterfall in Sri Lanka, situated 6 km (3.7 mi) west of Talawakele, Nuwara Eliya District on the A7 highway. The falls is named after a pioneer English coffee planter called Devon, whose plantation was situated nearby the falls. The waterfall is 97 m (318 ft) high and is the 19th highest in the country. The falls are formed by a tributary of Kothmale Oya, which is a tributary of Mahaweli River. The elevation of Devon Falls is 1,140 m (3,740 ft) above sea level.

Stop At: St Clair’s Falls, Hatton-Talawakele Highway, Talawakele, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
St. Clair’s Waterfall is one of Sri Lanka’s widest waterfalls, and referred to as the “Little Niagra of Sri Lanka”. Although the cascade is just off the Hatton – Talawakele road, it is one of the most picturesque waterfalls as it runs through green hills and lush tea estates. The waterfall got its name from the St. Clair Tea Estate– the tea estate in which it runs through. The cascade is approximately over 80m in height and 50m in width, and it comprises of two smaller waterfalls: Maha Ella, the greater fall, and Kuda Ella, the lesser fall. The waterfall is easily accessible and is visible from most places, even when you’re passing by train! There is a lookout point just off the road where you’ll get a view of the gushing cascade and its surrounding greenery.
