Stop At: Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum Complex, Galle – Matara Main Road Koggala, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka

Dedicated and inspired by one of Sri Lanka’s most renowned writers, the late Martin Wickramasinghe, the Folk Museum takes the centerpiece which provides a rare insight into traditional village life in Sri Lanka over a century ago. A wide range of exhibits including a re-created village kitchen, traditional modes of transport including carts, a collection of masks and puppets and cooking utensils are on display here. Towards the back of the garden is the house where Wickramasinghe was born and spent his early years, you can find a collection of photographs, books and awards that depict his private life and accomplishments as a writer. The ashes of the writer and his wife are buried next to the house within these premises.

Travel to explore one of the most refreshing tea estates in Sri Lanka with a specialized tour, learn the secret to how Virgin White Tea is being processed. Handunugoda Tea Estate is the only estate and factory in the coastal belt of Sri Lanka. They have much reknown as the artisanal producers of luxury teas. In addition to the Signature Virgin White, the factory is also known for other award-winning teas such as Ceylon Souchong, Saphire Oolong, and Flowery Cammellia. The teas are exclusively created and handmade by the sole proprieter Herman Gunaratne; using tried and tested orthodox methods to produce exquisite whole-leaf teas that can be brewed several times.

Stop At: Stilt Fishermen Sri Lanka, Koggala Sri Lanka

Featured across the internet, postcards, brochures and travel magazines, the images of the stilt fishermen are symbolic with Sri Lanka. They hail from the south of Sri Lanka from the towns of Koggala to Weligama in the south coast and practice an ancient technique of fishing unique to this region only. The stilts, which are carved with notches, allow the fishermen to balance themselves with one hand holding on to the fishing rod and balancing themselves on the poles itself with the other. The fishermen are most active around dawn and dusk which are the times they can maximize their catch.
