Although it never saw any action, it did deter future attacks of the Kandyan forces during the 18th century. Today, it serves as a reminder of how important the city of Matara was during the colonial era. The present-day Star Fort still possesses the original moat, along with the VOC insignia and the coat of arms that belonged to the governor of the time. There is also a museum that allows you to understand how the city’s landscapes have changed over the years.
