The weekends could be crowded with locals though, during the week it is relaxing and peaceful. Jami-ul-Alfar Mosque is a beautiful mosque, built in 1909 by contributions from Muslim community, in the heart of Colombo city near Pettah market where Muslims of the surrounding areas gather for prayer and worship five times a day. It is also known as Red Mosque. The bustling area is culturally rich, relatively cheaper, attractive and popular tourist area. There are five Halal restaurants in the vicinity which are damn cheap and have variety of good Muslim food. It is located at Second Cross Street in Pettah between Main Street and Bankshall Street. The mosque reflects earliest Moorish architectural style.
