Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. The temple of the tooth houses the left canine tooth of Lord Buddha after he was cremated in India. According to legend, Prince Dantha and Princess Hemamali of India smuggled it to Sri Lanka due to the warring regions of India, in order to keep it safe from destruction. Because of the power shifts among the kingdoms in Sri Lanka, the sacred relic was housed in many temples before it found its way to the sacred shrine of the current temple constructed by King Vimaladharmasuriya I during the era of the Kandyan kingdom in the 16th century AC, which is also the last kingdom of the country.

The lake also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is an artificial lake in the heart of the hill city of Kandy, Sri Lanka built by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe. Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe flooded paddy fields in order to construct the iconic lake in the centre of the ancient city, constructing around it a white wall called “Walakulu Bemma” or Cloud Wall for its distinct shape. The wall remains unfinished as the kingdom was plagued by invaders, but today it gives character to your romantic excursion. The walk will be dotted with vendors selling everything from street food to lottery tickets and more.
