Itinerary

Day 1: Negombo/Colombo – Nuwara Eliya

Stop At: Lover’s Leap Falls, Hawa Eliya, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
Lovers leap is an impressive water fall which is known for its romantic folklore. To reach this place one has to go through the tea factory and reach the tea manager’s bungalow along a dirt road. Visitors can reach this destination by following the signs that are there and eventually one can reach a rock face and a Shiva shrine. Just beyond the shrine one can see the cascading water fall. Legend has it that lovers have leapt to their deaths from this water fall and hence the name Lovers Leap

Stop At: Post Office Nuwara Eliya, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Nuwara Eliya 22200 Sri Lanka
Located at the centre of the town this 100 year old building is one of the most popular colonial constructions of “Little England’.The red brick exterior is hard to be missed while one is on the streets of Nuwara Eliya. Built in Tudor style, the post office has a distinctive edge and stands as a remnant of the old world Ceylon. A clock tower spirals from one side of the building.

Victoria Park, with its beautiful flowers and gardens is a must-visit when in Nuwara Eliya. Even if you aren’t particularly interested in flowers, it’s still a great place to go for a walk and relax. Victoria Park is old, as in extremely old. It was initially the research field for the Hakgala Botanical Garden, but was renamed after Queen Victoria in 1897. It covers a pretty large area spanning over 25 acres.

Stop At: Pedro Tea Factory, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Head for the Pedro Tea Estate which lies nestled amongst the scenic beauty of Sri Lanka’s hill country, situated in the shadows of the country’s highest mountain Pidurutalagala, just 3.5 km from NuwaraEliya. Walk through the tea fields and watch closely how the colorfully clad tea pluckers carefully pick the prized “two leaves and bud” that go into making the world finest Pure Ceylon Tea. Try your hand at picking the leaves; chat with the pickers (using hand gestures for they may not understand the language you speak), let them show you how it is correctly done. Next take a guided tour of the tea factory to see and understand the intricate procedure of tea processing. The full process involves Tea Plucking, Withering, Rolling, Fermentation, Firing and Sorting/Grading before it is bulk packed to be sent to the Tea Auctions in Colombo.

Stop At: Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Named after Sir William Gregory in 1873, this is a prominent attraction used for water sports and recreational activities. Lake Park, Boat Rides are available. Can be reached by sea plane which takes only 30 minutes from Colombo. At the southern end of the town is Gregory Lake where the holiday makers can enjoy a leisurely walk on the paved walk ways, with swan shaped paddle boats for the more adventurous. There are pony rides round the lake for the kids and even adults, with plenty of fast food stalls located in a separate area where one can enjoy a meal or a snack.

Day 2: Nuwara Eliya

Stop At: Horton Plains National Park, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Horton Plains was declared a National Park in 1988 and covers 3160 hectares of grasslands interspersed with forest and forms an undulating plateau more than 2000m (6,600ft) high. You rise through the wooded countryside on winding lanes. If you are lucky you may get a glimpse of Adam’s Peak in the distance to your right shortly before you reach the open uplands of Horton Plains. Arriving at the entrance gate, you start your walk. The trail is clear throughout, reaching ‘Little World’s End’ in 45 minutes, walking through woodland, then 15 minutes later, the greater drop of World’s End. On a clear day, the view is incredible.

Day 3: Nuwara Eliya – Ella

Day 4: Ella – Negombo/Colombo

Ravana’s Cave is a popular tourist attraction situated on the Wellawaya Road in Ella. Ravana’s cave is known to be the place where King Ravana hid his wife based on the story in the Ramayana. According to the legend, it is said that Ravana, who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time had kidnapped Queen Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind the Ravana Falls, known as Ravana’s Cave. The cave is a very cool place and the views are mesmerizing and there is a small tea spot when climbing up to it. The tea spot is a good place to sip a cup specialty Sri Lankan tea especially ginger tea while enjoying the amazing view of the place. There is also a nearby mountain which is believed to be King Ravana’s Surya Namaskar Ritual point.

The Ravana falls (Ravana Fall) with a height of 19 metres is one of the most popular activities in Ella, it is visited by almost all tourists. Although he isn’t very tall, but consists of several levels and pools where you can swim. Very popular as it is one of the few places near Ella, where you can swim. Indeed, to the extent of cool water in the pools is very refreshing, so on weekends and during the holidays there are so many locals and tourists that just is not overcrowded.

The name Lipton’s Seat says it all. It is a famous viewpoint 1970m above sea level. This precise spot in the Haputale Mountains overlooking the Dambetenna Tea Estate is where Sir Thomas Lipton used to sit and contemplate his plantation with its stony landscape and green tea bushes.

Have you ever been swimming on top of a waterfall, let alone one with a 220 metre drop? No,then trek up to the Upper Diyaluma falls encountering several waterfalls and natural pools, an unimaginable experience. Diyaluma falls is the second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, therefore, it is a challenging hike yet well worth it once you reach the top.
