Day 1: Negombo/Colombo – Galle

Stop At: Galle Fort, Church Street, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka
Built several years ago on a massive piece of land in Galle, the Galle Dutch Fort was used by the Portuguese until the Dutch took over it. The British finally sealed the fort as theirs with a lot of re-building and renovation. The unique blends that led to the standing of this monumental structure are now listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites thus deserving a substantial place on the list of places to visit in Galle.

The Green Turtle, Leatherback Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle, Olive Ridley and the Loggerhead Turtle are among five of the world’s seven species of sea turtles that nest on the beaches of Sri Lanka. Over the past few decades, sea turtle numbers have plummeted and some of the main threats include their eggs being illegally poached for local consumption and the development activities along the coast which have had an adverse impact on nesting sites. Habaraduwa remains one of the main nesting sites for sea turtles on the south coast and the hatcheries collect the most recently laid eggs and re-bury them in protected areas. Once the eggs hatch, the baby turtles are kept for a day or two in a tank prior to being released back into the ocean.

Day 3: Mirissa – Tangalle – Negombo/Colombo

Stop At: Stilt Fishermen Sri Lanka, Koggala Sri Lanka
Perhaps one of the most iconic scenes in any Sri Lankan tourism brochure is the sight of local stilt fishermen. These veterans who seem to defy gravity with their balancing skills are humble souls trying to eke out a living through traditional means. While the sight of stilt fishermen might give the impression of a comfortable activity, in reality, stilt fishing is quite physically demanding. The crossbar on the stilt allows the fishermen to sit a few meters above the water casting the least amount of shadows. When stilt fishermen began fishing rusted wreckages of abandoned ships and thereafter graduated to experimenting with erecting stilts in coral reefs. Not only do the fishermen have to balance themselves, but they also have to pay attention to the fishing rod and remain calm and silent for the duration of the catch. A small bag is tied around their waist or to the side of the pole and the days catch of small mackerel fish is collected.

Mulkirigala temples are an ancient group of Buddhist temples in Mulkirigala town, near Tangalle, in Hambantota district of Southern Province, Sri Lanka. These temples are built on a 205 metres high natural rock and have four other rock hills in the vicinity, namely Benagala, Kondagala, Bisogala and Seelawathiegala. The rock temples are amidst lush green coconut plantations. This site has been officially recognized as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka, by UNESCO. Mulkirigala rock temples in Tangalle are known by different names, such as Mulkirigala Raja Maha Vihara, Mulgirigala Vihara, Muvathitigala Vihara Little Sigiriya, etc., as given by various sects of Buddhists, priests and some by ancient locals and learned men.

Hiriketiya beach, popularly known as Hiri beach, is near Dickwella town, 20 minutes from Tangalle in Hambantota district, on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Hiriketiya beach is a recently discovered cove, with soft, pale yellow sand along sparkling blue water. The circumference of the bay typically has tall, skinny palm trees. Although away from the main road, this beach is quite a busy one. The waves of the bay are gentle and safe. A rocky mouth guards the bay. Locals and tourists frequently visit it because of its aesthetic serenity and cold weather all around the year. The horseshoe bay looks ravishing during the sunset.

Stop At: Hummanaya Blow Hole, XPHQ+2FJ, Kudawella, Sri Lanka
Hambanthota district has made tremendous strides at a pace to Hummanaya in other names Kudawella Blow Hole, ranked among the top tourism destinations in Hambanthota District Sri Lanka. it is a rare geological experience made at Kudawella village of Southern province, Sri Lanka. You may hear the sounds of the blow hole on your way from Dickwella to Kudawella. It is just 1.1 km from Dikwella to Kudawella.This curious feature of Ho-ho-hoo sound makes you hurry to reach the destination. Kudawella Blow hole area is embellished with rocky cliffs. There is a rock boulder in the middle of the rocky cliffs with a breakage in the middle. When the sea waves hit the rock, the water force passes out through the hole at the bottom of the rock and shoots about few meters high into the air. It needs two powerful sea waves from two different directions to be waddled each other.
