According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this site was selected by King Kasyapa for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure SIHAGIRI, the Lion Rock. The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king’s death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century

You will be starting your tour at 5:00 am from your hotel in Colombo. You will get to Sigiriya by 10.00 am. Your destination in the city will be the SIGIRIYA ROCK- The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this site was selected by King Kasyapa for his new capital.

You will be able to view the beautiful architecture of the palace and look at PAINTINGS- The theories and views on the subject of the paintings may be divided into two broad categories: firstly they portray human beings, i.e., queens, princesses and maids of the court of Kassapa I (AC 479-497).

You will finish these tours by 2:00 pm and break for lunch at a local restaurant. After an enjoyable meal at your own cost Later at 2:30 PM you will be going on technical tours to see the crafts of some of the traditional artisans of Sigiriya; such as the wood carvers and batik makers. You will get to see the process of how the they do their work, and will be able to purchase some great souvenirs (if you wish) too. 

On Your Return From Sigiriya you will be able to go on to the next leg of your tour Sri Lanka’s Largest Rock Cave Temple built on a 600 feet high Rock Located at an elevation of 1118 feet from the sea level rises a massive rock from the surrounding plains of Dambulla of 600 feet high and over 2000 feet in length. It is home to the Worlds most acclaimed Cave complex of magnificent Buddha Images and Rock Paintings of vivid colours and shapes constructed and painted from around 2nd Century BC (Anuradhapura era ) and continued up to the Kandyan era of the 18th Century. Sinhalese people call it as ‘ Dambulu Gala’ ( Dambulla Rock) and the Temple is called as the ‘ Rangiri Dambulu Viharaya’ (Golden Rock Dambulla Temple) and will then be returning to your hotel in Colombo; completing your tour.
