Day 1: Colombo – Kandy

Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya is the oldest formal gardens in Sri Lanka. It is located 460 Meters above the mean sea level about 5 km to the west of the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees and is renowned for its collection of orchids and the long, palm framed pathways. Encompassing over 60 hectares of sublimely designed lawns, pavilions and plant houses the extraordinary array of Sri Lankan, Asian and international flora is a fragrantly delectable, colourfully charming view on the eye. Gorgeous avenues lead on to sections exploding in bursts of tropical colour, and great lawns highlight enormous lush trees.

Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Sri Dalada Maligawa, or more commonly known as The Temple of the Tooth, is located in the heart of the Kandy town and is the most revered temple in the country, attracting worshipers and other visitors from around the world. Sri Dalada Maligawa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the main things to see in Kandy. Over the years the tooth has gradually grown in importance as a symbol of sovereignty, and it was generally believed that whoever had custody of the tooth, had the right to rule the island. Today, the temple acts as a pilgrimage site for Sri Lankan Buddhists who will pay at least one visit to the temple during their lifetime.

Stop At: Kandy Lake, Centre of Kandy City, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Kandy Lake is a lake in the heart of the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Built in 1807 by King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha of Sri Lanka next to the Temple of the Tooth. In the middle of the lake is a small island used by the emperor`s personal harem. Later the British used it to store ammunition, and they were the ones who built the fortress style parapet around the area. The lake is charming and peaceful and will be your absolute favorite part of Kandy.

Stop At: Kandy Lake Club – Cultural Dance Show, 7 Sangamitta Mawatha, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
The Kandy Cultural Show is a celebration of Kandyan dance, an energetic series of manoeuvres – all performed to various forms of mesmerising percussion. It’s a bit like high energy land-based synchronised swimming performed by smiling locals with good balance and a knack for twirling objects. The performers wear a colorful display of elaborate costumes in the form of beads, tassels, and sparkles, gyrating to the rhythmic sounds of traditional Sri Lankan drumming. The beat comes from the Geta Beraya, a drum only used in Kandyan dance, which appears to warrant its overuse. The outfits are topped off with gravity-defying headgear which can only be worn by males. It’s all pulled together as fit Kandyans perform vigorous hand movements and impressive backflips over the course of the next hour.

Day 2: Kandy – Sigiriya – Dambulla – Colombo

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
Sigiriya Rock Fortress is one of the most awe-inspiring cultural sites in Sri Lanka and is worthy of being named the 8th wonder of the world. The rock is 600 feet tall and is located in the district of Matale. What really makes it unique are the ruins of a royal palace belonging to King Kashyapa in 500 CE. Today, it remains a sight to behold with its water gardens, rock gardens, famed frescoes, and palace remnants at the summit. Sigiriya Rock was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 and is part of the Sri Lanka Cultural Triangle along with Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla, and Kandy. This region of Sri Lanka has been inhabited for a long time as evidenced by the nearby Megalithic Burial Sites and the rich history of the ruins of Polonnaruwa. Visiting Sigiriya Rock is an obvious must in your visit to Sri Lanka.

Stop At: Dambulla Cave Temple, Jaffna Hwy, Habarana 50150 Sri Lanka
Towering 160m over Sri Lanka’s central plains is the beautifully preserved Dambulla Cave Temple, the largest cave temple complex in the country. This ancient temple harbours a large number of murals and sculptures originated many thousands of years ago. Today Dambulla cave temple is an important world heritage site located within the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka and included in most Sri Lanka tour itineraries. The temple is fully integrated with the giant rock, therefore that the roofs, walls and the floors practically from the stone. This cave temple is located in the city of Dambulla in the central province of Sri Lanka. It is one of the world heritage sites in the country. Even though it takes a lot of time to reach the temple from the destinations in the west and east coast, where the most tourist resorts are located, it is worth to make a visit to the temple, due to the historical and artistic value of the temple.
