Stop At: Stilt Fishermen Sri Lanka, Koggala Sri Lanka

Stilt fishing is a method of fishing unique to the island country of Sri Lanka, known as “the Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. The fishermen sit on a cross bar called a ‘petta’ tied to a vertical pole and driven into the sand a few meters offshore. From this high position, the fishermen casts his line, and waits until a fish comes along to be caught. There are also opportunities to try the activity if interested; not to mention the breathtaking photographic views provided by the fishermen silhouetted against the horizon at dawn and dusk. Nothing says Sri Lanka more than a sunset view of the stilt fishermen.

Stop At: Dalawella Beach, Galle Sri Lanka

The Insta-famous Dalawella Beach swing is located just down the road from the popular tourist town of Unawatuna. The guys at Dream Cabana built the swing as something fun for themselves and it is evolved into one of the most talked about spots in Sri Lanka. It’s crazy how something a few mates built has become a bucket list item in Sri Lanka.It can be found directly in front of the Dream Cabana guesthouse, right on the beachfront. Photos taken at any time of the day at Dalawella Beach come out really well, but the sunrise/sunset ones are extra dreamy as the sky is so beautiful!

Stop At: Jungle Beach, Unawatuna 80600 Sri Lanka

The real Jungle Beach Unawatuna, however, is a small isolated beach close to Galle and Unawatuna Beach in Sri Lanka.Jungle Beach is a pretty bay, one of those ‘secret’ spots that everyone seems to know about and it’s a pleasant, hilly 2km walk from Unawatuna. The coastal breeze, the 30-minute walk to Jungle Beach affords lots of opportunities to see exotic birds, flowers, large butterflies, monitor lizards, monkeys, and other wildlife along the way. Sri Lanka has an astounding amount of flora and fauna. Despite its small size, the island is considered the most biodiverse in all of Asia!

Stop At: Japanese Peace Pagoda, Rumassala, Unawatuna 80600 Sri Lanka

Atop a hill along the busy road to Unawatuna, this is a lovely peaceful place which also affords excellent views across the lagoon towards the Galle Fort. This is adventure type religious place Built with the help of Japanese monks, the peace pagoda on Rumasalla Hill is one of three Buddhist stupas in Sri Lanka. This peaceful, round shrine in the middle of the Sri Lankan jungle acts as a beacon of peace. Sets of steps also lead to a walkway encircling the shrine which offers a 360-degree view of the jungle and bay.

Stop At: Sea Turtle Farm and Hatchery – Habaraduwa, Silver Green, Matara Road Between posts 128km and 129km, Habaraduwa 80630 Sri Lanka

The Turtle Hatchery in Habaraduwa is maintained by a team of volunteers taking all possible efforts to save the sea turtles for the next generation with the support of well-wishers around the globe. The “Sea Turtle Hatchery” is situated in Habaraduwa (southern part of Sri Lanka – Galle district) near to the beautiful golden sand beach. In most of nights, the officers of the hatcheries collect the turtle eggs and protect them until the babies are come out. Up to proper age limit, the owners manage the small babies and when correct times reach they release the turtle to water. It is a great scenery to watch also upon your request there is availability for volunteer works.
