Stop At: Galle Fort, Church Street, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka

Galle Fort, is situated in the the Bay of Galle on the south coast of Sri Lanka. It was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, and then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards.

The Galle Fort has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria IV, for its unique exposition of an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

Today, most of the properties are owned by the Sri Lankan Government and a few Dutch people who had the ownership from the beginning.

Stop At: Galle Fort Lighthouse, Rampart Street Galle Fort, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka

The old lighthouse with the lantern at the height of 92 feet above low-water, built in 1848 was burnt down in 1936. The new light was built in 1940 at Utreeth Bastion in the same street, lighthouse street called ‘Zeeburgstraat’ ‘Middelpuntstraat’ during the Dutch period. The lantern is 92 feet above low-water level.

Stop At: Maritime Archeological Museum (Galle), Queen Street Duch fort, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka

Maritime Museum is the only museum which aware the public on marine biological and anthropological aspects of Southern coastal area. It is located in the old Dutch ware house of the fort of Galle, built in 1671. The museum was open to the public on 9th May 1992.

Aftermath of Tsunami on 26th December 2004, the museum was completely destroyed and all the expositions were damaged. Under Sri Lanka – Netherlands Cultural Co-operation Program, the Royal Government of Netherlands provided financial assistance for reconstruction of the Maritime Museum. After 3 years period of reconstruction, now the Maritime Museum has opened to the public.

Stop At: Galle Fort Clock Tower, Rampart Street Galle Fort, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka

The Galle Clock Tower is a four story tall stone monument hailing from the late 19th century. It was built within the ramparts of the Galle Fort on the site of the previous guardroom, overlooking one of the three bastions of the fort.

The clock tower was built in recognition of the services of renowned Colonial Surgeon Dr. Antonisz, who was also a representative of the Legislative Council. The tower construction was funded through public subscription through the people of Galle. The clock was separately donated by Mudaliyar Samson de Abrew Rajapakse, who was grateful for the medical care that he received from the good doctor.

Stop At: Sea Turtle Farm Galle Mahamodara, 417 D/1, Colombo Road, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka

The “Sea Turtle Hatchery” is situated in Habaraduwa (southern part of Sri Lanka – Galle district) near to the beautiful golden sand beach.

The center was started in 1986 and up to now we have released more than 1,000,000 Sea Turtles to the ocean.​​

The sea turtles are one of the rare species found in the world. Their heritage could be traced to more than 100 million years. They are supposed to have lived during the Dinosaurs age. But at present about 8 varieties of turtles are said to be existing.
