Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Sri Lanka

Stop At: Negombo, Negombo, Western Province
We will pick you up at the airport, drive to Diklanda Bungalow, the lovingly restored colonial bungalow in a family owned coconut estate at the edge of Sri Lankan’s Coconut Triangle.
At Diklanda we have a specially created ‘quiet room’ to help you make the transition from hectic work life and the stresses of travel. A slow swim in our private pool, personally prepared meals with fresh ingredients will set the pace for the days ahead

Day 2: Wellness Day 1

Day 4: Wellness Day 3 + Visit to Ancient Buddhist Temple

Climb over 500 steps to the upper cave shrine with a spreading view across the coastal villages. Incredible cave temples are a continuous and integral part of Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage for over 2000 years. Enjoy one of the best examples of the Southern School painting of the 17th century Kandyan Period.

Day 5: Wellness Day 4 + Sunrise Pontoon Ride on a Bird Sanctuary & Wetland Park

Rise early to experience dawn on the exquisite Kalametiya Lagoon as we take a boat ride through the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary. Breathe in the salt air and relax into the sounds of nature waking up as your hand paddled boat glides through shallow waters and mangroves.

Day 6: Travel to Sri Lanka’s most famous Wildlife Park – Yala

Stop At: Yala National Park, Yala National Park
Enjoy a change of environment as we move on to the Back of Beyond Dune Camp, resting on the unique sand dunes of Yala that roll down to the sea. Great care has been taken to ‘touch gently’ when setting up the individual luxury tents, nestling them within the beach jungle. You can expect all the comforts of home yet experience the rejuvenation of the salty air, the crashing turquoise sea and the rising sun.
Yoga & meditation can be enjoyed on the dunes combined with long walks on the wild isolated beach with not another soul in sight. We keep to our detoxifying diet and enjoy our meals both under the stars and in our leaf thatched restaurant.

Far removed from the stresses of urban life, connecting more closely with nature, you will feel yourself returning to balance even more.

Day 7: Wildlife Safari at Yala

Stop At: Yala National Park, Yala National Park
The entrance to the Yala National Park is barely 10 min away. Wake up early, and drive out in your safari jeep to get to the Park Gate as it opens. Yala is the most popular park with good reason. It has the world’s highest rate of leopard sightings as well as a great variety of large mammals including the sloth bear, wild buffalo, elephant, sambhur, wild boar, spotted deer as well as the smaller mammals including ruddy and grey mongoose and giant squirrel. Don’t overlook the amazing variety of birds and butterflies, and (scary though they may be!) the incredible reptiles.

Bundala National Park and Bird Sanctuary is a lovely park along the rugged untamed coast with innumerable lagoons and wetlands. During the migrant season you don’t need to be a birder to be awestruck by sheer numbers and variety of indigenous and visiting birds that roost and feed at Bundala.

Day 8: Scenic railway journey to Ella

Stop At: Ella, Ella, Uva Province
Moving from the sea to the hills, Buduruwagala the imposing 10th century rock cut statues of the Buddha, Bodhisattvas and supporting deities are framed by the raw granite rock and the brooding jungle behind it. Find a quiet corner under the trees and let these images that have been a source of inspiration for centuries help you turn your mind inwards.
Arrive at Ella – once a beautiful isolated little village perched on the edge of the mountains as they rise directly up from the green plains, is now the most popular ‘tourist hot spot’ in Sri Lanka. Let’s venture down the café-lined center street to tempt you to re-tox your body! Or challenge yourself and skip a meal using the age old technique of detoxing by fasting. Enjoy!!

Day 9: Climb Ella Rock for spectacular views!

Stop At: Ella, Ella, Uva Province
Ella Rock hike is what everyone does to sit and gasp (and take that Instagram photo) at the narrow green valley framed by the blue sky and rolling mountains. It’s a bucket list hike for visitors to Sri Lanka, so don’t expect to be too isolated unless you wake up very early and hike along the rail track.

Day 11: Visit historic Galle Fort and travel to the airport for departure

Stop At: Galle Fort, Church Street, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka
The morning is yours to do as you please. You can continue with massages, yoga and meditation or you can step it up a little by cycling out to explore the village and land around the Wellness Retreat.
Let’s drop by the in Galle before hitting the Expressway to the BIA.
Walk around the well restored 400 year old Dutch Colonial Fort with its light house and ramparts, innumerable churches, colonial buildings, cafes and hotels. Have a meal of your choice before leaving for the BIA airport to fly off …feeling totally rejuvenated!
