Itinerary

Day 1: AIRPORT PICK UP / WELCOME TO SRI LANKA

Stop At: Negombo Beach, Negombo Sri Lanka
AYUBOWAN-! Welcome to Sri Lanka, the land like no other and 12 days of explorations giving you the opportunity to touch the Unesco World Heritage sites and unique Sri Lankan culture, the lush green tea estates & waterfalls in the hills, the wildlife and exciting adventures, the beautiful soft sandy and remote beaches. Upon arrival at Colombo CMB Airport, you will meet and greet by the tour leader and then will be transferred to your hotel. The first destination will be Negombo coastal town, which has long been known as the most popular beach in Sri Lanka, famous for its golden sandy beach, food and entertainments. For day one we haven’t planned any activity, so you will have a relaxing day at Negombo beach or by the pool of your cosy hotel. Evening, you may walk along the seashore while enjoying the beautiful sun setting and the pleasant evening atmosphere of Negombo beach.

Day 2: SIGIRIYA LION ROCK / CULTURAL VILLAGE TOUR

Stop At: Habarana Lake, Habarana Sri Lanka
After enjoying a delicious breakfast with a hot cup of Sri Lankan tea or a coffee, you will take a wonderful journey across the stunning Sri Lankan countryside towards Dambulla city, which is the central point of the cultural triangle in the island. En-route you’ll visit Elephant Rock Temple and Kurunegala Lake. Upon arrival at Dambulla, you’ll enjoy a wonderful cultural village tour while exploring the beautiful countryside (INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE). It will start with a Bullock Cart ride, one of the most ancient and prime transportation systems in Sri Lanka, still used in some villages. While on the tour you will enjoy a canoeing boat ride across the lake and a pleasant TukTuk ride before reaching the farmer’s house where you will experience the typical Sri Lankan countryside hospitality.

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
In the afternoon, you will visit Sigiriya Lion Rock, where you may capture the beautiful scenery of sun setting. Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located near the town of Dambulla. King Kasyapa (477 – 495 BC) built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE and it is one of the best-preserved examples of ancient architecture. Sigiriya refuses to reveal its secrets easily; in fact, you have to climb a series of vertiginous staircases to reach the top. On the way, you’ll pass quite remarkable frescoes and a pair of colossal lion paws carved into the bedrock.

Day 3: KINGDOM OF POLONNARUWA / PIDURANGALA ROCK HIKE

Stop At: Polonnaruwa Vatadage, Sacred City, Polonnaruwa Sri Lanka
In the morning you will visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. In 1070 King Vijayabahu chose this place as his kingdom, one of the most ancient in the history of Sri Lanka. Cycling in Polonnaruwa countryside is a wonderful experience: Afterwards, you have free time to relax by the pool of your lovely hotel overlooking the surrounding landscape or to take a herbal massage.

Stop At: Pidurangala Royal Cave Temple, Dambulla Sri Lanka
Afternoon, if you are up to it, join with the Pidurangala rock hike (optional activity), a perfect location for those who prefer a non-touristic experience; also, this might be a rare opportunity to explore the hidden beauty of Sri Lanka. If you had enough of overcrowded spots and noises, this is your ideal destination. . There is no clear path to the top: steep paths and uneven steps give way to an expanse of boulders and crevices that climbers must navigate in order to reach the summit. Make sure you have mosquito spray if bites trouble you.

Day 4: CAVE TEMPLE / SPICE GARDEN / HISTORIC KANDY CITY

Stop At: Dambulla Royal Cave Temple, Kandy – Jaffna Highway, Dambulla 21100 Sri Lanka
In the morning after breakfast visit Dambulla Cave Temple (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE). Dambulla has the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. It has been treasured by many kings since the 1st century B.C. The rock towers 160 meters over the surrounding plains and houses 5 cave temples with some of the most unique and significant historical drawings. The murals cover an area of 2100 square metres and depict the temptation of the demon Mara and Buddha’s first sermon.

Stop At: Regent Spice and Herbal Garden – Matale, No:06, Kirigalpoththa, Palapathwela, Matale Sri Lanka
Next: Visit a spice garden in Matale to see many different types of spices Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. A processing and training unit has been set up in the area and farmers are grouped in a cooperative to ensure fair prices and you will also be able to purchase spices. Gardens are open to visitors, a delightful place to stroll in fragrant greenery and learn about nutmeg, pepper vines, clove trees and curry, cinnamon and the precious cardamom, a relative of ginger.

Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Thereafter, proceed towards Kandy, the capital of the last Sinhalese Kingdom. It’s set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and bio diverse rainforests. Kandy is also famous for its sacred Buddhist sites, including the Temple of the Tooth Relic (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE).

Day 5: ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDEN / CULTURAL DANCE SHOW

Stop At: Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya Road, Peradeniya 20400 Sri Lanka
After breakfast, visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden, one of the best botanical gardens in Asia. Stop At: Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya attracts 2 million visitors annually. It is renowned for its collection of orchids. The garden includes more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres.

Day 6: NUWARA ELIYA TEA PLANTATIONS / WATERFALLS

Stop At: Nuwara Eliya, Nuwara Eliya, Central Province
After breakfast, you’ll enjoy a wonderful journey towards the Sri Lankan tea region of Nuwara Eliya. It is often referred to as “Little England” because many of the buildings in this city retain from the British colonial period, such as the Queen’s Cottage, the General’s House, the Grand Hotel, the Hill Club and the Town Post Office. Since this amazing town is located in the mountains, it’s characterized by a cool climate all year long. While driving through the cold and misty hills that host lush green tea plantations, stop at a tea factory to observe the rich tradition of making Ceylon Tea that kept alive up to date. Make sure to end your factory visit in style over a perfectly blended cup of tea. Afternoon, you will walk through Nuwara Eliya city centre and the fruit and vegetable market. Try some snacks around lanes filled with street-foods and bustling local eateries.

Day 7: FAMOUS TRAIN JOURNEY INTO THE MOUNTAINS

Stop At: Nanu Oya, Nanu Oya, Central Province
In the morning, take a train journey from Nanu-oya station to Ella village (subject to availability and can’t be pre-booked). It is known as one of the most picturesque hill country train journeys in the world.

Ella is everyone’s favourite hill country village due to the fact that it’s a wonderful nature-friendly location. The Nine Arch Bridge, a major tourist attraction in Ella, is a massive bridge built entirely of solid rocks, bricks and cement without using a single piece of steel. Ella is an excellent place for walking and climbing and its most famous trekking route is to “Mini Adam’s Peak”. Evening, you could chill-out at the village centre where there are lots of restaurants, pubs and evening entertainments. Ella is a stunning place that anyone who is visiting Sri Lanka should not miss out.

Day 8: UDAWALAWE NATIONAL PARK

Stop At: Rawana Falls, Wellawaya-Ella-Kumbalwela Hwy, Ella 90090 Sri Lanka
After breakfast, depart form Ella towards Udawalawe National Park. En-route visit Rawana waterfall is one of the most popular sightseeing attractions in Ella. It currently ranks as one of the longest falls in the country; in fact, this waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft).

Afterwards, your tour leader will take you to Udawalawe National Park for an afternoon 4×4 Jeep safari, since it is the best time to spot wild elephants on their natural habitat. If you’re up for a serious rumble in the jungle, then Udawalawe is your ideal destination! Spreading over 8800 hectares, this park is mainly a sanctuary for elephants. It is always a pleasure to watch baby elephants playing with water at the centrepiece Lake of the park. This place is known as the largest elephant gathering place in the world.

Day 9: IT’S TIME FOR THE BEACH / LEISURE DAY

After a fantastic journey through the mountains and waterfalls, you have finally arrived at the world-famous beachside of Sri Lanka. Mirissa/Dickwella is a delightful sandy beach that was a well-kept secret in the past, but now more restaurants and pubs are opening up to visitors. It is also characterized by white sands and coconut palms growing right from the edge of the sea as if in imitation of a postcard of the perfect tropical beach. Upon arrival to your hotel, you may grab a towel to relax on the beach while enjoying a cocktail or a chill beer under the shade of a beach umbrella.

Day 11: MULKIRIGALA ROCK TEMPLE / LEISURE DAY

Stop At: Mulkirigala Historical Lake, Sri Lanka
In the morning visit Mulkirigala, one of the most important heritage sites in the Southern Province. It is popular for its cave temple, built by King Kavantissa, who erected a golden Buddha statue 18 cubits in length in one of these caves. The monastery has great historical importance dating back to the 2nd century B.C. when Buddhist monks started visiting it to pray and meditate. Most caves still preserve beautiful paintings of excellent quality, which is why nowadays they attract locals and tourists as well.

Day 12: HISTORIC GALLE CITY / GALLE FORT
