Itinerary

Day 1: Colombo/Negombo – Ella

Stop At: Nine Arches Bridge, Ella Sri Lanka
This 30-metre high, 90-metre long viaduct with dramatic high arches is a beautiful piece of architecture that enhances its setting as it crosses a narrow gorge between Ella and Demodara railway stations. Close by, the Demodara loop is also quite something, as the train coming from up-country enters a tunnel underneath Demodara rail station and then spirals around to cope with the vertical distance between two adjacent hills. This bridge, which is almost 100 years old, has been built with blocks of stone and cement without any strengthening iron or concrete. This setting, beloved by thousands of Instagram accounts, somehow conveys the relaxed vibe that makes Sri Lanka one of the most treasured holiday destinations in the world.

The network of caves and tunnels are all man made, connected to all the important cities and served as swift secret passage ways through the mountains. The cave resides behind the 25 meter cascade, Ravana Falls (Ravana Ella). The marvelous waterfall is one of the widest in Sri Lanka, especially during the rainy season. It is said that Princess Sita bathed in a pool of water gathered by the waterfall.
