Itinerary

Day 1: Negombo – Kandy

Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
The Dalada Maligawa, also known as, the Temple of the Tooth, is one of the landmark sites in the city of Kandy. It is located in the heart of Kandy town surrounded by the lake and the commercial district. The Maligawa was once the royal palace inhabited by the king and his consorts, but after the demise of the Kandyan Kingdom the palace was transformed into a Buddhist temple that holds Buddha’s tooth. It is a must visit location for all tourists. Visitors can catch a glimpse of Buddhist rituals, explore the museum that includes several ancient artifacts, and pay your tribute to the tooth relic at one of the Buddhist ceremonies held at the premises.

Stop At: Kandy Lake, Centre of Kandy City, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Situated next to the sacred Temple of Tooth, the Kandy Lake is a sight to behold. With the lush greenery of the surrounding hills forming a perfect backdrop, the lake embraces you with its serenity and resplendent beauty. The lake was built in 1807 by King Sri Vikrama Rajasinh. The most alluring is the island situated in the middle of the lake. Now plush with palm trees and bamboo thickets, the island in the beginning was the bathing place of the queens and the ladies of the court. A walk around the shores of the lake is a must for anyone visiting the lake.

Stop At: Bahiravokanda Vihara Buddha Statue, Bahirawa Kanda Rd, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
The Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya at Bahirawakanda is a very attractive and hilly place close to Kandy Town. Many tourists are attracted by the giant Buddha statue, which is built with people’s generous donations. Founded by Ven. Ampitiye Dammarama Thero, the monastery was started in 1972. The big Buddha’s statue has become one of the major attractions in Kandy. Reaching a height of more than 25 meters, it is one of the tallest statues of Buddha in Sri Lanka.

Stop At: Kandy Lake Club – Cultural Dance Show, 7 Sangamitta Mawatha, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
Watch a Kandyan cultural show and be awed by the spectacular dance, acrobatics, costumes and music. The dance which traces its origin from the ancient ritual known as the Kohomba Kapkariya, focuses on dynamism, powerful footwork, leaps, and whirls that imitate several movements from birds and animals. The whole performance is graced by colorful costumes, masked dances, and thrilling fire acts! To make the show more exciting, some men perform a series of acrobats and stunts such as plate-spinning.

Day 2: Most Scenic Train Ride from Kandy to Ella

Stop At: Nine Arches Bridge, Ella Sri Lanka
The Nine Arch Bridge in Ella is on the Demodara loop and spans 91 meters at a height of 24m. The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. Standing at 80ft tall, 25ft wide and 300ft tall, the bridge and its surrounding area have seen a huge increase in tourism due to the bridge’s architectural ingenuity and the plentiful foliage in the nearby hillsides. It is definitely a sight to behold if you’re travelling through Ella.

Day 3: Ella – Negombo

Stop At: Little Adam’s Peak, Passara Road, Ella 90090 Sri Lanka
Little Adams Peak is located in the small mountain town of Ella, right in the heart of Sri Lanka. Mini Adam’s Peak is very similar to Adam’s Peak in nature and hence got its name from the villagers constantly calling it this name. Lower plains surrounding Uva, Northern and Southern Provinces can be seen at the peak of the mountain. Little Adam’s Peak attracts many travelers who visit Sri Lanka and the hiking trails is right next to the Ella Flower Garden Resort. It is priceless if you can visit in the morning when the clouds roll in. The trail begins with a moderate incline as it winds through tea plantation.

Stop At: Ravana Ella Falls, Ella-Wellawaya Road, Ella 90090 Sri Lanka
Ravana falls in one of the best waterfalls you will find in Sri Lanka. Located 6kms from Ella is this 3 tier cascading waterfall, flowing down the mountain side. Being one of the widest known with a reckless reputation of being wild, the Ravana falls also is an important location narrated in the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. Situated in the Dry zone off Welimada, the falls is a tourist hotspot as well as a water source to the villagers who cultivates the surrounding mountain. The cave behind the Ravana falls, aptly named Ravana falls cave, is said to be the place where king Ravana held the kidnapped Sita captive.

Stop At: Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory, Badulla Road, Hela Halpe, Ella, Sri Lanka 90090, Sri Lanka
Located at a short distance from the Halpe Temple en route to Badulla is where you will encounter the bustling Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory which is 1,230 meters above sea level. Ideally suited for experiencing the very best that a tea tour in Sri Lanka has to offer, visitors to the factory will be met with a number of activities to do. From meandering through lush, green tea gardens to finally savouring your own ‘cuppa’, one is sure to have plenty to talk of coming to the conclusion of one’s journey.
