Stop At: Dickwella Beach, Sri Lanka

Protected by reefs and sand bars, with picturesque views of small canoes reflecting the fishing culture of Sri Lanka, Dickwella beach is one of the safest and beautiful places for swimming and surfing and is one of the most popular destinations in instagram famous for its beach rope swings. In this beach it is a common sight to see small canoes (oru in Sinhala) kept sheltered by local fishermen, especially at the Pehambiya end.

Stop At: Wewurukannala Buduraja Maha Viharaya, Beliatta Rd, Dikwella 81200, Sri Lanka

Wewurukannala Buduraja Maha Viharaya is a Buddhist temple situated in Dikwella, southern Sri Lanka. This amazing temple is towered by a large statue of Lord Buddha in the seated position. This 48 m statue is one of the largest statues in Sri Lanka and dates back to the reign of King Rajadhi (1782 – 1798). The murals of the temple walls depict various events of the life of Lord Buddha and shows one the path towards enlightenment. The temple has a museum which consists of a large clock. This clock is unique in that it mechanism is protected inside a glass cubicle. The clock works even up to this day.

Hiriketiya Beach is the ‘hidden gem’ on the south coast of Sri Lanka. It is a 500m beautiful horse-show shaped cove with left reef and beach surf break. The surrounding area is calm and peaceful with a few restaurants and hotels. Hiriketiya Beach is a surfer’s paradise. For those who can excel the baby waves at Weligama, Hiriketiya has better waves to try out. Away from the commercialized tourist zones, Hiriketiya bay feels like home away from home.

Located in Kudawella, a little after the bustling town of Matara; the Hummanaya Blow Hole can be accessed by a short 5-10 minute walk through a small, quiet village dotted with local vendors selling handicrafts, street food and refreshing beverages. The Hummanaya Blow Hole is a natural wonder that sprays a jet of sea water into the air between two giant rocks; sometimes reaching heights of over 80 – 100 feet, and should be added to your list of things to see while you tour to the Southern Coast of Sri Lanka. The blow hole attracts tourists from around the world to witness its magnificence.
