Stop At: Coconut Tree Hill, Mirissa Sri Lanka

Coconut Tree Hill is a beautiful hill perched into the Indian Ocean lined with sky high palm trees overlooking the Mirissa bay. Presumably one of the more well-known hotspots of Mirissa, locals and tourists alike flock to this gorgeous hill to catch a sunrise, or sunset, all while staring out into the vast ocean before it. Watch the beautiful sun rays blast through the Coconut Trees and cast wonderful shadows over the hill.

Stop At: Secret Beach, Harbor Rd., Mirissa 81740 Sri Lanka

Secret beach is definitely not secret anymore, but it’s not overly crowded either, and it’s a beautiful little beach. But it still is a beautiful V shaped beach with 2 bays on both sides to relax for a day. The shallow rock pool is perfect to chill or lay in to cool off without getting hit by incoming waves. Therefore it might also be a perfect place for young kids to play in. And for die-hard sunbathers it is the perfect place to lay cool in the water while getting a tan!

Stop At: Parrot Rock Bridge, Mirissa Sri Lanka

Parrot rock is the name of the teeny tiny island rock on Mirissa Beach. The view from Parrot Rock is really nice, and if you go over to the side of the rock that’s the furthest from the beach, you’ll find a lot of rocks where you can sit and enjoy the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks and while the sky goes from blue to orange and pink. Parrot Rock was one of the favourite spots in Mirissa.

Stop At: Dalawella Beach, Galle Sri Lanka

With photos popping up all over social media and many travelers adding it to their Sri Lanka bucket list Dalawella Beach swing is located just down the road from the popular tourist town of Unawatuna. Famous for its rope swing and low bending palm trees, Dalawella Beach is a beautiful strip of sand just down the road from Unawatuna.
It has a few picture perfect spots and with water that’s perfect for swimming. In the last couple of years the insta famous Dalawella Beach swing has become a huge tourist attraction. The swing is outside a small guesthouse (Dream Cabanas) and is attached midway up a palm tree that stretches out towards the beach.

Stop At: Sea Turtle Conservation Project (Koggala), Mathara Road, Koggala 80630 Sri Lanka

Sea turtles are magnificent, endangered creatures and protecting tem become harder each day. Koggala sea turtle farm & hatchery have good intentions with their project and are raising awareness for endangered sea turtles. Koggala Sea Turtle Farm and Hatchery is situated on Matara Road in Koggala. This beach side farm and hatchery started in 2010 and has released more than 100,000 turtles up to now. In truth, nothing beats seeing turtles swim freely in their natural habitat but since they are endangered, it doesn’t hurt to visit a sanctuary. Turtle sanctuaries such as the one in Koggala are doing their part to save these mysterious sea creatures from extinction.

Stop At: Stilt Fishermen Sri Lanka, Koggala Sri Lanka

Down South is famous for the fishing technique employed by the fishermen of the village. They cast their lines out while balancing themselves quite cleverly on a 20-50 meter pole in shallow waters; stilt fishing derives its name from this act. Even though the origins of this strange way of fishing is yet unknown, this may be a good opportunity to chat up a few fishermen who take pride in this unique technique. The fishermen here guard their fishing poles with their lives and hand them down from one generation to another. Fishermen found on stilts are those who do not have access to sophisticated equipment for fishing. These men can make a living simply with the help of two wooden poles to make a stilt.This picturesque view of stilt fishermen is a huge attraction for tourists and is on their list of ‘things to do in Sri Lanka’ .
