Stop At: Gangaramaya (Vihara) Buddhist Temple, 61 Sri Jinaratana Road, Colombo Sri Lanka

The Gangaramaya Temple is one of the bigger Buddhist temples in Colombo. The Gangaramaya Vihara Temple is an unusual mix of a Buddhist temple and a museum, home to not only a number of vintage cars but an enormous amount of materials of dubious religious relevance, including gold, sapphires, sandalwood, elephant ivory, porcelain, Chinese statues, a cannon, stamps, watches, cameras, photographs, coins, two taxidermied elephants, stereos, shells, swords and other assorted knick-knacks. Many of these items were gifts to the temple.Seema Malaka is a Buddhist temple in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The temple is mainly used for meditation and rest, rather than for worship. Situated in the Beira Lake, the temple was originally constructed in the late 19th century.

Colombo’s most famous landmarks, Beira Lake is located in the mid of Sri Lanka’s capital. It is also a well-known place to enjoy serene splendor within the city. Beira Lake covered an area of around 410 acres in the past, but with the fast commercialization of the zone, it has since been contracted to around 160 acres. There are numerous tales connected to the olden times of such tanks, several of which got fabricated by the monarchs. But, the Beira Lake, situated in the city of Colombo, got constructed for a completely different reason and not by one of our early monarchs either. The construction of the lake took place all the way back in the year 1521 by the Portuguese. Its main purpose was to act as a protective barrier against invaders, and to also serve as a means of transporting weapons and soldiers in the event of invasion or conflict of any sort.

Stop At: Pettah Floating Market, Bastian Mawatha, Colombo Sri Lanka

The Pettah Floating Markets are located on Bastian Mawatha in Pettah, a neighborhood in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and consist of 92 trade stalls, with a number of the stalls established on boats on Beira Lake. The floating market serves as a tourist attraction selling local produce and local handicraft. The UDA has advised that it will be undertaking promotional campaigns and improving accessibility to the area in an attempt to improve visitations to the area.

Stop At: Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque, Second Cross Street, Colombo 01100 Sri Lanka

The Jami-Ul-Alfar Mosque, also known as the Red Mosque, is located near the Beta Market. The Jami Ul Alfar Muslim Mosque only took a year to build having been started in 1908. Inside the central court yard is the ablutions water tank lined with light blue tiles that jarringly contrast to the ornamental red and white stripped interior. If you are hopping to be invited into the mosque you will have to be conservatively dressed.

Stop At: Old Parliament Building, Fort, Colombo Sri Lanka

The building was designated as the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 1977. In 1983, the Sri Lankan parliament moved out to the new complex in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte. Since then, the Old Parliament Building has functioned as the home to the Presidential Secretariat. You will find that the front garden of the building complex is host to several bronze statues of eminent statesmen including that of Rt Hon. The Neo-Baroque-style building was built during the British colonial era to house the Legislative Council of Ceylon, and was an idea of Sir Henry McCallum.

Stop At: Colombo National Museum, Albert Crescent, Colombo Sri Lanka

The Colombo Museum was established in 1st January 1877. It was founded by the British Governor of Ceylon at the time; Sir William Gregory. Along with the Colombo National Museum the Library was also established in the 1st of January in 1877. The Government Oriental library (1870) was incorporated in to Colombo National Museum Library, and served as the nucleus of the library collection by collecting the local publications during the past 129 years. It is home to many valuable and historically important objects such as the throne and the crown of the Kandyan Monarchs.
