This national park also serves as a corridor for elephants to migrate between Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park. The national park is situated 261 km (162 mi) southwest from Colombo. After being closed because of the Sri Lankan civil war, the national park is now open to the general public.

Your safari will take you to Lunugamvehera National Park, part of which serves as an elephant corridor for migrating elephants to travel between Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park. You will be traveling in a multi-terrain(4WD) game vehicle.
Lunugamvehera is 22,000 hectare national park with over 14% of it underwater.It includes the Lunuamvehera reservoir and two other reservoirs, Lunugamvehera lies within the southern dry zone of Sri Lanka,between Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park.As such, the main portion of the park is used as a Corridor for migrating elephants traveling to the Udawalawe Park during the drought season.As such,a large number of elephants can be seen wandering around the park’s lands during migrating periods.
The park has 21 fish species,12 amphibians,33 reptiles, 183 birds and 43 mammals.The rainfall of the park differs from one end of the park to another end, with the highest rainfall being around 1000 millimetres annually.
