Stop At: Galle Fort, Church Street, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka

Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a historical, archaeological and architectural heritage monument, which even after more than 432 years maintains a polished appearance, due to extensive reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.This is a primary attraction. Walking around the Fort’s Ramparts is a good early morning excursion. This is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by Europeans. Galle Fort is now comprised of a maze of narrow roads lined with small houses, restaurants, shops, villas and boutique hotels and is an utterly enchanting place to explore.

Galle Lighthouse also is known as Pointe De Galle Light is Sri Lanka’s oldest light station. Established in 1848 as the first onshore lighthouse in Galle, Sri Lanka, the original 80 feet structure was destroyed by a fire and the existing second structure was built in 1939.Fortunately, the lighthouse light at Galle Fort has long been automated, and the keeper only makes the 87 feet climb for maintenance and to keep an eye on the ships entering the Galle Harbour from its high point in Point Utrecht Bastion.

Dutch Reformed church of the Galle Fort, also known as the Groote Kerkis one of the oldest Protestant Churches and oldest Landmarks of Sri Lanka, which was originally built in the year 1640 and then renovated to its present condition in the year 1752.It is believed to be the third oldest building in the Galle Fort. Earlier it was located near the clock tower inside Galle fort but it was relocated to the present location after the closure of Portuguese of Capuchin Convent. Presently the church stands in the highest point in the Galle fort which 12m (39 feet) above sea level. This journey will bring back memories of Dutch incarnation in the country.

Stop At: Japanese Peace Pagoda, Rumassala, Unawatuna 80600 Sri Lanka

On the hillside west of Unawatuna, this impressive pagoda was built by Japanese Buddhist monks of the Mahayana sect in 2005.The Japanese Peace Pagoda is quite impressive. You can see it from the main Unawatuna beach and, upon climbing the Rumassala hill it fills your vision.Designed to focus on peace between all peoples, Japanese Peace Pagoda sits atop a hill overlooking a beach, with views stretching down into the city.

Unawatuna is one of the biggest tourist destinations in Sri Lanka and is the most “famous” beach in the country. It is a lovely banana shaped beach of golden sand and turquoise water, surrounded by green palm trees.Two kilometres away from Galle is the famous beach resort town of Unawatuna, popular with foreign & local tourist alike for its placid turquoise blue sea.
