Madu River is located in the south of Sri Lanka near Galle. It is located in Balapitiya, Galle 80 km away from Colombo. The Madu River area surrounding the river are all swampy marshlands covered in mangrove forests. The forest covers over 61 hectares, that is over 150 acres. 14 of the 24 species of mangroves are found in this area. The most important thing is that the mangroves play a huge part in preventing erosion. The beauty of Madu river also comprises with most of the soggy wetlands, the solid landmasses of the region mainly consists of islands.

The Galle Fort, or Dutch Fort as it is also known, is a fortification first built by the Portugese on the Southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. This fortress is completed with 14 bastions which is still the best-preserved and best example for the fortified city in Asia built by Europeans by showing the mix of European architectural styles and South Asian traditions. It covers an area of 52 hectares inside the walls. A lighthouse installed on the Utrecht bastion, and a tower erected for the jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1883. A Protestant church also built in Baroque Style in 1775. The most prominent buildings in the fort complex were the Commandant’s residence, the arsenal and the gun house.

All Saints’ Church is an Anglican church located within the Galle fort in Galle, Sri Lanka and is located on Church Road. Anyone desiring to witness history inside the streets of the Galle Fort must visit this church, a stone structure that has a striking exterior with multiple arches and a turret. An engraving outside indicates that the site was once a court house. The gallows is said to have stood on the site of the present church altar. The style of architecture is 13th century Gothic, modified to suit the local climate. The church stands out as one of the most beautiful Anglican Churches in Sri Lanka.

Although most Galle town beaches on the one hand lure visitors through its irresistible magnetism of sun, sea, sand and relaxation, Unawatuna beach is all those and also an ideal place to take a dip in the ocean or indulge in some waters sports with family.

Kosgoda sea turtle conservation project is the largest turtle protecting center in Kosgoda and also in the Sri Lanka. It has a large tank and wide beach area. The central aim of the project is to monitor local sea turtle activity and to conserve the local nesting sites. A crucial element is the hatchery, where rescued eggs can hatch safely, away from the clutches of potential predators (or poachers) before being released into the ocean at night. In addition, a selection from each hatching are kept at the sanctuary for a short period for ‘headstarting’ before their release.
