Itinerary

Day 1: Negombo/Colombo – Sinharaja

Stop At: Sinharaja Forest Entrance, Sinharaja Access Road Viharahena, Deniyaya 81500 Sri Lanka
Located in south-west Sri Lanka, Sinharaja is the country’s last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. More than 60% of the trees are endemic and many of them are considered rare. There is much endemic wildlife, especially birds, but the reserve is also home to over 50% of Sri Lanka’s endemic species of mammals and butterflies, as well as many kinds of insects, reptiles and rare amphibians. Sri Lanka is home to 830 endemic species, of which 217 trees and woody climbers are found in the low land wet zone. Of these, 139 (64%) have been recorded in the reserve including 16 rare species. Faunal endemism is particularly high for birds with 19 (95%) of 20 species recorded in the property being endemic to Sri Lanka. .See the rarest species of birds, reptiles, and plants that are endemic to Sinharaja and Sri Lanka.

Day 2: Sinharaja – Udawalawa – Negombo/Colombo

Stop At: Udawalawe National Park Sri Lanka
Framed by soaring highlands on its northern boundary, National Park is one of the world’s best places to see wild elephants. Largely comprised of grasslands and bush forest, it’s also one of the best national parks in Sri Lanka for game spotting. Udawalawe National Park, the sixth largest animal sanctuary of Sri Lanka. The park is situated just south of the Central Highlands, of which escarpment brings about an enrapturing backdrop. At the center of the park lies the Udawalawe Reservoir. Udawalawe is undoubtedly the best place in Sri Lanka to see wild Asian Elephants throughout the year: there are about 500 elephants in the park and they often roam in herds of up to 100. There is a rich diversity in Udawalawe. There are 184 birds, 33 reptiles, 43 mammals and also 135 different species of butterflies. Other than leopards and elephants, there are even the chances of spotting water buffaloes, wild boars, crocodiles, peacocks and also spotted deer.
