Stop At: Bopath Ella (Bopath Falls), Agalawatta, Kuruwita 70500 Sri Lanka

The Bopath Falls cascades in the shape of a bo (Ficus religiosa) tree (hence its name) and is the most comprehensively studied fall in Sri Lanka. Its source is the Kurugana River that later joins the Kaluganga River at Kurugaomaodara.

The average temperature of the area is 26.9 – 27.8 degrees Celsius and the annual rainfall of the fall’s catchment area is 5080mm. The mean speed of the flow is 6 cubic metres per second. The upper reach of the fall is made up of granite and biotite virin, and is covered by sand. The water from the fall irrigates the paddy fields of the Udakada and Kuruwita areas.

Stop At: Mapalana Ella Falls, Ratnapura Sri Lanka

Situated amongst medicinal herbs, the 141 m high Mapalana Ella fall consists of three sections and is served by a stream which originates from the Thoranabandigala in the Samanala mountain range. This stream joins Kalu Ganaga river further down. During the rainy season the simultaneous flows can be heard from up to 6km away.

According to legends, the fall gets its name from a local nobelsman (maapaa) who used to bath at this fall. The Maapaa-Nana (place where the nobel bathe) became mapanana and later Mapalana

Stop At: Katugas Ella Falls, Weralupa Junction, Ratnapura Sri Lanka

This is a small waterfall located near the Rathnapura town.
To reach the waterfall you have to travel few kilometers towards Balangoda from Rathnapura until reach to Weralupa Junction. You have to turn to the small road from there and travel about 2 km where you meet a small bridge. From there turn to the small path and walk until you meet the water stream called Katugas Dola. From there, you need to walk over that water stream until you reach the thin 6m height Katugas Ella.
It may be difficulty to reach this location for an elderly person sine it is required to walk with the water stream of Katugas Dola over the slippery rocks.

Stop At: Ratnapura, Sri Lanka

Rajanawa Ella Falls is a waterfall which is situated in Ratnapura. It is 12 m in height and its water is used for the paddy fields in the surrounding area. According to folklore, King Walagamba used to bathe at this waterfall. Hence it is aptly named as “Rajanawa Ella Falls” which means the falls where the king (raja) bathed (nawa). It is also believed that there is gold, stored in a mysterious, hard-to-locate tunnel which is guarded by stone doors, at this location.
